El Studio: Building a Solid Foundation for Digital Growth

El Studio is a premier professional beauty and haircare brand based in Romania. Grounded in salon-grade expertise, the brand operates a successful chain of physical salons alongside its dedicated online store, shop.el-studio.ro. El Studio bridges the gap between expert salon care and at-home maintenance by providing consumers with direct access to high-quality, professional beauty care products.

Challenge: Overcoming Technical Barriers

Despite a solid reputation in the physical salon space, El Studio’s digital growth was heavily restricted by an outdated, legacy WooCommerce setup. The online store suffered from slow loading times, an aging theme, and critical security vulnerabilities. Furthermore, a chaotic approach to product attributes made catalog management and filtering highly inefficient. To eliminate platform instability, scale efficiently, and prepare for upcoming high-traffic seasonal events like Black Friday, El Studio needed a secure, high-performing digital ecosystem paired with a clear, structured customer retention strategy.

Phase 1: Shopify Migration & Data Foundations

To establish a modern eCommerce foundation, we managed the core transition from WooCommerce to a premium Shopify theme environment. This entire process was designed to secure data integrity while protecting existing search equity:

  • Data Migration: We transferred a total product catalog of approximately 1,500 items, along with historical records of 29,800 orders and 15,000 customers. Static institutional pages and blog articles were also migrated to guarantee complete content continuity.

  • Website Build: Using the newly selected premium theme, we configured the site architecture, responsive layouts, and user interface elements to deliver a clean, intuitive desktop and mobile shopping experience.

  • SEO Redirects: To minimize any negative impact on organic traffic, we mapped out a precise 301 redirection strategy covering top landing pages, products, and category structures, ensuring search engine visibility remained intact.

  • Go-Live: The site launch was carefully coordinated, managing the technical DNS cutover (A, AAAA, and CNAME records) to seamlessly shift the domain to Shopify with minimal operational downtime.

In parallel with this development roadmap, we completely overhauled El Studio’s marketing communication layer by setting up their foundational email marketing automation. This ran alongside the migration process, allowing us to build, design, and configure a fully operational Klaviyo retention funnel that went live right with the new store.

Phase 2: UX Improvements & Strategic Tech Stack Implementation

Once the site architecture was secured, the project focused on optimizing the user experience (UX) and driving direct-to-consumer (DTC) conversions using Shopify’s native capabilities and specialized ecosystem integrations.

  • Advanced Layout & Native Navigation: Built a polished, highly responsive header, sticky cart options, and an immersive mega menu customized around clean product categories. We also incorporated a dynamic free-shipping progress bar within the slide-in drawer to maximize Average Order Value (AOV).

  • Industry-Specific Product Rules: Configured custom display rules for exclusive product lines (such as Nashi), swapping standard checkout functions for tailored notice scripts (“Available exclusively in salons”) to perfectly complement their physical business operations.

  • Review & Wishlist Apps: Deployed native review and wishlist applications (such as Judge.me) to capture user-generated content directly on product pages and allow customers to save their favorite items.

  • Advanced Operations & Compliance: Configured localized shipping logic using Xconnector for automated courier AWB synchronization. We also implemented Google Consent Mode V2 to maintain alignment with European privacy regulations and prepared the team through targeted training to manage advanced product variations, custom tags, and bulk editing capabilities.

Phase 3: Foundational Email Automation & Advanced Deliverability

 

Recognizing that paid traffic continues to grow more expensive, building an automated customer retention funnel was critical for long-term profitability. We completely overhauled El Studio’s email marketing stack, replacing their fragmented newsletter legacy tools to migrate them entirely onto Klaviyo. The strategic framework focused on automated lifecycle messaging, deploying 6 core flows comprising 16 custom-designed behavioral emails:

  • New Subscriber Flow: Capturing new leads via custom pop-ups and incentivizing the critical first purchase.
  • Site & Browse Abandonment Flows: Retargeting highly engaged window shoppers by highlighting best-sellers or recently viewed items to build immediate brand trust.
  • Cart & Checkout Abandonment Flows: Recovering high-intent buyers who dropped off during active purchase stages.
  • New Customer & Post-Purchase Flows: Cultivating long-term relationships by delivering care tutorials, social media touchpoints, and tailored secondary incentives.

Technical Domain Authentication & Deliverability Safeguards

To protect El Studio’s sending authority during the platform transition and prevent emails from filtering into the spam folder, we implemented a precise backend technical strategy:

  • Server-Level Domain Authentication: Configured custom SPF, DKIM, and DMARC server entries within the DNS settings to explicitly authorize Klaviyo to send on behalf of the shop.el-studio.ro domain. This technical layer eliminates “via klaviyo” tags, increasing security and raising baseline deliverability rates.

  • List Hygiene Sweep: Filtered the legacy data database to scrub out hard bounces and structurally invalid email addresses before executing any communications.

  • 14-Day Gradual Domain Warm-Up Protocol: Rather than blasting the full unprimed list at once, we systematically partitioned the subscriber database into 14 distinct, highly calculated engagement segments. Over a consecutive two-week window, our team executed a single unified ramp-up campaign targeting exactly one segment per day, gradually leading with the highest-interacting users to safely establish an elite domain sender reputation with top ISPs like Google and Yahoo.
