Our experience speaks volumes when it comes to building Shopify stores, be it for technology, apparel brands, pet stores, etc. We had collaborations with a diverse range of clients from all industries and strive to provide them with seamless performance and the best user experience. Take a look at two of the brands we’ve worked with, and let’s explore the must-have features for your store in this vertical.
Wireless Place: Leading in Devices and Gadgets
Wireless Place is a one-stop shop for smartphones, gadgets, and accessories. This Shopify store was created to offer an improved experience for users, with advanced filtering, warranties, loyalty programs, etc. This store was made to exceed the needs of their target audience.
Rossellimac: Apple Premium Reseller
Rossellimac is the go-to place for Apple products, offering top-quality devices and accessories for those who want the best on the market. We designed their Shopify store with a clean, minimalist vibe and added practical features like bundle deals and upselling options. The goal was to make it super easy for customers to find exactly what they need and pair it with the perfect accessories or extended warranties.
Both projects show just how well we can create their Shopify stores. Suited to the needs of tech retailers but also the needs of the clients. It’s all about making them easy to use, efficient, and focused on conversions.
Features for Your Technology Shopify Store
Your tech Shopify store will stand out if you implement features that make shopping easy, enjoyable, and as efficient as possible. Customers know what they need and they need to have it without any struggles.
- Large Search Bar
A search bar must be easy to spot so that customers can find exactly what they’re looking for. This feature is a game changer for technology stores. It’s especially useful if you have a huge range of available gadgets and accessories.
2. Advanced Filtering System
No one wants to scroll endlessly to find what they’re looking for. That’s why you need a smart filtering system that sorts products by specs, price, brands, compatibility, etc. They help make the decision process faster and keep customers happy.
3. Advanced Compare
Tech shoppers love to compare specs before making a decision. An advanced compare tool that lays out all the differences and similarities between products makes decision-making easy and efficient, helping them make the purchase.
4. Bundles
Bundles like pairing a smartphone with a charger or case, are a great way to encourage customers to buy more items at the checkout by offering things they might also need with their initial interest. It’s an easy way of boosting your average order value (AOV).
5. Selling Warranties
Extended warranties or insurance helps give tech buyers the peace of mind they need. Consider adding an upsell at checkout with the warranties, as it will add extra value to the purchase and meet the customer’s needs.
6. Upselling Products
Everyone wants to have the best when it comes to tech. Suggest a premium version of the product a customer is already looking at. For example, if they are looking at the iPhone 15, show them the difference between the different models. This can easily boost revenue per customer.
7. Cross-Sell Products in the Shopping Cart
The add-ons in the shopping cart need to be affordable. Like cables, screen protectors, and headphones. The suggestions will lead to extra sales without much effort. Sometimes they will even serve as a reminder of what else is needed so your customers might look for the premium versions of the suggestions.
Additional Features for Your Technology Store
Here are some advanced features that can help you improve your Shopify store, based on the eCommerce best practices:
8. Breadcrumb Navigation
This is typically a pain point on lots of Shopify themes but breadcrumbs seem to still be important for SEO too. They are useful for visitors to know exactly where they are in your store and make it easy to navigate between collections and previous pages. I’d say breadcrumbs are a must have, even if you have to add that through custom code on your theme.
9. Customer Reviews and Ratings
Have both Customer Testimonals (their experience with you as a store) and Product Reviews and star ratings (your customer’s experience with your products) on your website. These will make a strong difference and with so many UGC apps available for Shopify it’s just about taking the time to set them up and content will gather over time. Oh, and make sure you don’t forget to add the Google Reviews snippet.
10. Mobile Optimization
The fact that your store needs to be optimized for mobile should definitely not come as a surprise. Think mobile first! You’re on Shopify, so most likely, you already have a theme that’s optimized for mobile, BUT make sure the banners your team is producing display well on mobile, too.
11. One-Click Checkout
This depends. If you sell more expensive technology products and your average number of products per order is close to 1 it makes sense to have this. However, if your goal is to get your clients to purchase lots of products and accessories then having accelerated checkout methods on the product page won’t be useful – it may actually harm your goal.
12. Live Chat Support
Today, with Gorgias, Tidio, and so many other chat services that are readily available it’s easy to have corporate grade customer support. Connect that to your email automation system and add in a couple of chat bots and you get even more out of it. Your customers will see your commitment to supporting them and it will give them confidence. This is a great way to improve shopping experience and increase the conversion rate for your store.
13. Wishlist Functionality
While most users are going to typically just add products to their shopping cart, some prefer using wishlists and with technology products it can typically be a longer decision making process. Offer wishlists functionality just to cover all consumer preferences and analyze if they are being used after 3-4 months. If the answer is no, you can remove it.
14. Exit-Intent Popups
Exit-intent popups are quite important for technology stores because most of the times those products are going to be available on many other stores and marketplaces. The main reason why a cart or a checkout page gets abandoned is because the user is going on some marketplace or competitor store to try and find the product at a better price. Having an exit-intent popup – a popup that appears when the user tries to leave the page – helps you keep some of those users on the page or at least capture their email address.
15. Secure Payment Options
I’ve said it, i’ll say it again. Using Shopify payments and PayPal will get you 99% there. You’ll have security, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Shop Pay, Credit Cards and PayPal covered. Add Amazon Pay to the mix and you’re good to go! However, consider if have business clients as well – those may prefer to pay with terms or bank transfer.
16. Fast Page Loading Speed
Always check your Google Page Speed Score but don’t go crazy. As long as your mobile speed score is above 40 you have nothing to worry about. Most of the times even above 30. If it falls under 30 go through and optimize your images, uninstall unnecessary apps and that should get you a quick and painless speed increase.
