Gomag is one of the most popular ways to launch an online store in Romania: local support, local couriers and invoicing built in, and a starting price of 7 EUR a month. The questions usually come later, when the store passes a few hundred orders a month, wants to sell abroad or needs more control over design and marketing. This comparison shows, criterion by criterion, when Gomag is still the right choice and when Shopify pays off.
In short: Gomag or Shopify?
Gomag is the better fit for a Romania-only store that wants everything local out of the box and has a modest order volume. Shopify pays off once you scale: more orders, international markets, a strong brand and serious email marketing. Gomag’s subscription grows with your order count, while Shopify’s plan price stays fixed and you pay for the apps you choose.
Stay on Gomag if…
- You sell only in Romania and have no plans to expand abroad.
- You average under 350 orders a month, the volume Gomag’s subscription already includes.
- You want SmartBill or FGO invoicing, couriers and eMAG Marketplace working without extra apps.
- You prefer support in Romanian and a team that handles setup for you.
- Your current theme and conversion rate already meet your goals.
Move to Shopify if…
- Your order volume keeps triggering new Gomag increments every few months.
- You want to sell in several countries, currencies and languages from one store.
- Your brand needs a custom design and checkout experience that a template cannot give you.
- Email and SMS (for example with Klaviyo) are becoming a main revenue channel.
- You need a large app ecosystem and developers who can build what is missing.
What is Gomag?
Gomag is a Romanian SaaS ecommerce platform: hosting, updates and security are included in the subscription. Gomag says over 5,000 clients use it. It offers four plans (Basic, Advanced, Elite and Enterprise), 19 base themes, more than 150 apps and native integrations with Romanian couriers, payment processors, SmartBill, FGO and eMAG Marketplace. Recent additions include AI assistants and automation bots called Gobots. Gomag also offers free migration to its platform on the Advanced plan and above.
Gomag vs Shopify: comparison table
Both are hosted SaaS platforms; the main differences are how the price scales and how Romanian integrations are delivered (built in on Gomag, through apps on Shopify). Prices exclude VAT. Data checked October 2026.

How much does Gomag cost compared to Shopify?
Gomag is cheaper at the start; Shopify becomes competitive as order volume grows. Gomag’s plans include an average of 350 orders a month, and each extra 350 orders adds 67 EUR a month to the subscription (Gomag). Shopify’s plan price does not change with the number of orders (eSEOspace).
Here is how the subscription alone compares at different volumes, using Gomag Elite and Shopify Grow on monthly billing (our calculation from the published pricing rules):

Gomag Elite (EUR, excl. VAT) |
Shopify Grow (USD) |
|---|---|---|

The subscription is not the full cost. On Shopify, add the apps that replace Gomag’s built-in features (e-Factura, AWB, eMAG connector) and payment fees. On Gomag, add premium apps and custom development. Both platforms offer discounts for annual billing: 30% on Gomag, and Basic, Grow and Advanced drop to 29, 79 and 299 USD a month on Shopify.
Both also run launch promotions. Gomag’s Kickstart offer charges 1 EUR a month for the first 6 months for new stores (Gomag), while Shopify offers 1 USD a month for the first 3 months on selected plans (DemandSage).
Which Romanian integrations does each support?
Both cover the essentials for selling in Romania; Gomag includes them natively, while Shopify relies on apps from the Shopify App Store.
Invoicing and e-Factura. Gomag integrates SmartBill and FGO for free (Gomag). On Shopify, apps such as eFactura SPV turn orders into e-Factura invoices, submit them to ANAF and connect to SmartBill, Oblio and FGO.
Couriers and AWB. Gomag generates AWBs automatically and offers 6 couriers through GShipments plus 18 more natively. On Shopify, apps such as Fluxsales issue AWBs and invoices for FAN Courier, Cargus, Oblio and SmartBill from the Shopify admin.
Payments. Gomag offers GPayments plus more than 15 external processors. Shopify Payments works for Romanian businesses, with cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay, and payouts every 3 business days. Local gateways can also be connected.
eMAG Marketplace. This is Gomag’s strongest local advantage: a free native integration from the Advanced plan. On Shopify, eMAG runs through third-party or custom-built connectors, for example from ECOSIRE, so plan for setup time and cost.
Which is better for SEO and site speed?
Neither platform wins on SEO by default; results depend on the theme, content and technical setup. Gomag ships an SEO-ready structure, local SEO options and optional automated SEO rules for product and category pages (Gomag). Shopify also handles the technical basics out of the box and lets developers fine-tune themes, structured data and redirects.
For speed, the honest answer is to test your own store, not a platform average. Run your top category and product pages through Google PageSpeed Insights before deciding, and compare them with a well-built Shopify store in your niche.
The bigger SEO risk is the migration itself. Moving platforms without a URL map and 301 redirects can cost rankings, which is why a migration plan starts with SEO, not design. Read more about migration without losing organic traffic.
Editor note: add PageSpeed screenshots of a real Gomag store and a real Shopify store, with the test date.
How do they compare on marketing and retention?
Gomag covers the basics inside the platform; Shopify connects to dedicated tools like Klaviyo for advanced lifecycle marketing. Gomag includes transactional emails, popups, coupons and upsells, and its Gobots automate email and SMS. Abandoned cart recovery emails, loyalty points and gift products start on the Elite plan (Gomag).
On Shopify, Klaviyo syncs orders, browsing behavior and product data, so you can build segmented flows such as welcome series, browse abandonment, post-purchase and win-back. For brands where repeat purchases drive profit, this depth usually matters more than any platform feature. See how we set up Klaviyo retention automations.
As a Shopify Plus Partner and Klaviyo Master Platinum agency, we see the same pattern often: stores outgrow built-in automations once email becomes a main revenue channel.
Which scales better for B2B and international?
Shopify scales further, especially across countries; Gomag supports B2B and cross-border selling from its Elite plan. On Gomag, Elite adds B2B customer groups, cross-border selling, API access, ERP connection and up to 10,000 products. Enterprise raises the product limit to 50,000+ and adds webhooks and phone support (Gomag).
Shopify added native B2B to its Basic, Grow and Advanced plans in April 2026, with up to 3 catalogs, company profiles, payment terms and volume pricing (eSEOspace). For international growth, Shopify lets one store serve several markets with local currencies, languages and domains, and Shopify Plus adds expansion stores and full checkout customization.
How easy is it to take your data with you?
On Gomag, it depends on your plan: CSV export of products, orders and customers is available on Advanced, Elite and Enterprise, but not on Basic (Gomag). If you are on Basic and considering a move, check your options with Gomag support before you start.
Shopify lets you export products, customers and orders as CSV files from the admin, on every plan. Before any migration, also export what CSV files often miss: product reviews, blog posts, URL structure and customer account data. Check your contract for the notice period and renewal date, especially if you paid for one or two years upfront.
When it makes sense to stay on Gomag
Stay on Gomag if the platform is not what is holding your growth back. A migration costs time, money and focus, and it only pays off when it solves a real problem.
Gomag is likely still the right choice if most of your sales come from Romania and eMAG, your order volume is stable, and your team relies on the built-in invoicing and courier flow. It also makes sense if you recently paid for an annual or two-year subscription, or if your conversion rate and traffic are healthy.
If you are unsure, look at the bottleneck first. Slow growth caused by weak ads, product pages or email strategy will follow you to any platform.
How migrating from Gomag to Shopify works
A Gomag to Shopify migration follows six steps, and SEO protection runs through all of them. The timeline depends on catalog size, integrations and design scope.
- Audit. We review your catalog, traffic, top-ranking URLs, integrations and current conversion rate, and agree on what must work on day one.
- Data export. Products, variants, customers and orders are exported from Gomag as CSV (available on Advanced and above), along with content such as blog posts and pages.
- Store build. We set up the Shopify theme, design, checkout and Romanian integrations: e-Factura, couriers, payments and, where needed, eMAG.
- SEO mapping. Every old URL gets a 301 redirect to its new equivalent, and titles, meta descriptions and structured data are carried over.
- Testing. Orders, invoices, AWBs, emails and redirects are tested end to end before launch.
- Launch and monitoring. We switch the domain, monitor rankings and crawl errors in Google Search Console, and fix issues in the first weeks.

Gomag vs Shopify: FAQ
Is Gomag better than Shopify?
It depends on your stage. Gomag is better for a Romania-only store under about 350 orders a month that wants local integrations built in. Shopify is better for stores scaling in volume, selling internationally or relying on advanced email marketing. The right choice is the one that removes your current growth bottleneck.
How much does migrating from Gomag to Shopify cost?
It depends on catalog size, integrations and design scope. A store keeping a standard theme and a few integrations costs far less than a custom design with eMAG, ERP and multi-country setup. The fastest way to get a real number is a platform audit, which maps exactly what needs to move.
Will I lose Google rankings if I migrate?
Not if the migration is done properly. Rankings drop when old URLs break. A complete 301 redirect map, preserved meta data and monitoring in Google Search Console after launch protect your organic traffic. Small fluctuations in the first weeks are normal while Google recrawls the store.
Can I keep my invoicing and courier integrations?
Yes, in most cases. Shopify apps cover e-Factura submission to ANAF, sync with SmartBill, Oblio and FGO, and AWB generation for couriers such as FAN Courier and Cargus. The setup differs from Gomag, so we test every invoice and AWB flow before launch.
Can I sell on eMAG from Shopify?
Yes, but not natively. eMAG runs through third-party or custom connectors that sync products, stock, prices and orders. Gomag includes this integration for free from its Advanced plan, so if eMAG is your main channel, factor the connector cost into your decision.
Does Shopify Payments work in Romania?
Yes. Businesses based in Romania can use Shopify Payments to accept cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay, with payouts every 3 business days. It works for online sales, but not yet for in-person sales with Shopify POS in Romania.
Can I export my data from Gomag?
Yes, on Advanced, Elite and Enterprise. These plans let you export products, orders and customers as CSV files. The Basic plan does not include data export, so check your options with Gomag before planning a move.
