Every BFCM guide says to build the email list, fix mobile and start ads early. This one skips that. Shopify’s Fall ’26 Edition landed on October 28, a month before Black Friday (November 27), and it changed how stores launch sales, get found and get paid. Here are eight tips we are giving our own clients at eCommerce Today this year, a Shopify Plus Partner and Klaviyo Master Platinum Partner working with brands in the US and Europe.
Tip 1: Launch the entire sale with one click, scheduled weeks ahead
The tip: Bundle the sale theme, the discounts and market pricing into a single Shopify Rollout, set as an “Event” so it switches on when the sale starts and reverts by itself after Cyber Monday.
Since the Fall ’26 Edition, one rollout can schedule the theme, checkout, discounts and market catalogs together. That removes the classic BFCM launch error: a banner promising 30% off while the discount is not yet live in checkout. Find it under Markets > Rollouts. Stores on the Advanced or Plus plan can also target a rollout by market, so EU and US sales can start on different dates.
One detail for the end of the sale: the online store reverts as soon as the Event ends, but Shopify POS and product feeds such as Google & YouTube switch back only at their next sync. Until then they can still show sale prices, so check them on the Tuesday after Cyber Monday.
Tip 2: Never A/B test prices during BFCM week
The tip: Run Rollout experiments in early November, lock the winner, and keep every price test out of the sale itself.
A Rollout “Experiment” only changes the online store. Ads, Google Shopping feeds and AI channels keep showing the original price, so half the visitors can land on a price that does not match the ad they clicked. Only a rollout published to 100% of visitors, such as a Launch or a full Event, also updates checkout, POS and the Google & YouTube feeds. In a week when every mismatch costs trust, test layouts and messaging before the sale, not prices during it.
Tip 3: Proofread what AI assistants will say about the store
The tip: Open Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base and correct every fact before it reaches ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot.
Shopify now writes a fact sheet about each store from its own pages: shipping destinations, return windows, sizing. AI shopping assistants quote it to shoppers. Facts Shopify drafts from the storefront stay unpublished until the merchant publishes them, but facts linked to the admin, such as store policies and contact details, are published automatically. Most stores have never looked at either. Before BFCM, the holiday shipping cut-offs and extended returns policy belong in there, word for word as they appear on the site.
Tip 4: Treat every compare-at price as a public claim
The tip: Audit compare-at prices product by product before the sale, because AI agents can now show them to shoppers as the “was” price.
Since October 9, Shopify Catalog sends compare-at prices to AI shopping agents, and each AI channel decides whether to display the markdown. An inflated or forgotten compare-at price used to sit quietly on a product page; now it can be repeated in AI answers. For EU stores the stakes are higher: under the Omnibus Directive, the reference price must be the lowest price of the previous 30 days. Stores that use compare-at for an MSRP rather than a real past price should check the Compare-at setting in their Catalog mapping.
Tip 5: Put the hero offer on a simple product, not a bundle
The tip: Keep bundles for the storefront, and place the deal meant to travel through AI channels on a standard, single product.
Shopify-powered checkout inside Google AI Mode and Gemini is rolling out to shoppers in the US, Canada and Australia, on by default for eligible stores. It does not support bundles, subscription-only products, customizable products or B2B-only products. A BFCM gift-set bundle can win on the homepage and still be impossible to buy for a shopper asking Gemini for “the best Black Friday deal” in that category.
Tip 6: Write product pages for AI agents, 50 products at a time
The tip: Run the Catalog eligibility check, then use Sidekick to fill missing materials, sizes and care details across the whole BFCM collection in one approved batch.
AI assistants recommend what they can read. If an agent cannot find a fabric or a size range, it moves on to a store that lists one. Shopify now explains in the admin why a product is excluded from its Catalog, and Sidekick can stage up to 50 changes as one set to review and publish together, from the desktop admin or a mobile browser. One afternoon of batch clean-up improves AI visibility, on-site search and SEO at the same time.
Tip 7: Give AI-channel buyers their own welcome flow
The tip: Tag orders that come from AI channels with Shopify Flow, and send those buyers a post-purchase flow that introduces the brand.
A shopper who bought through an AI assistant may never have seen the homepage, the brand story or the newsletter form. The standard post-purchase flow assumes they did. Orders placed through the direct checkout in Google AI Mode and Gemini, Microsoft Copilot or Meta carry their sales channel in the Shopify admin, so a simple Flow tag can route them in Klaviyo to a sequence that tells the brand story, invites them to subscribe and asks for a review. Shoppers referred by ChatGPT usually buy on the store’s own checkout, so their orders show up as Online Store; identify those by referrer or UTM source instead. This is how a one-off AI sale becomes a repeat customer in January.
Tip 8: Let Shopify Protect triage the fraud spike, and freeze redesigns
The tip: Brief the team on Shopify Protect’s new risk explanations before the rush, and keep Canvas and any theme redesign off the live store until December.
BFCM is peak season for card-testing bots and fraudulent orders. Shopify Protect, new in Fall ’26 for stores on Shopify Payments, blocks near-certain fraud before payment, stops card testing and explains each flagged order in plain language, so the team can decide quickly what to ship. Custom rules can be tested against the last 90 days of orders first.
The flip side: Shopify’s new Canvas editor is tempting, but it is in early access and a theme edited there stops receiving theme updates. Test it on a copy, not on the store that has to perform on November 27.
The bottom line
The stores that win BFCM 2026 will be the ones whose offer is scheduled, whose prices are honest everywhere they appear, and whose products AI assistants can read and trust. Most of that work takes days, not weeks, and there is still time. For a structured plan, eCommerce Today offers a Q4 readiness planner for Shopify brands.
BFCM 2026 on Shopify: FAQs
When are Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2026?
Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday on Monday, November 30. In much of Europe, sale campaigns start earlier in November.
What is Shopify's Fall '26 Edition, and why does it matter for BFCM?
It is Shopify’s product release launched on October 28, 2026 under the name “Exponential”, with more than 150 updates. It arrived about a month before Black Friday instead of in December, so several of its features (wider Rollouts, AI-channel checkout, Shopify Protect) can be used for this year’s sale.
What is a Shopify Rollout, and which plan does it need?
Rollouts schedule or test storefront changes from Markets > Rollouts in the admin. There are three types: a Launch (permanent), an Event (reverts automatically when it ends) and an Experiment (an A/B test, 50/50 by default). Rollouts are available from the Basic plan, Experiments need the Grow plan or higher, and market-specific targeting needs Advanced or Plus.
Can shoppers buy Shopify products inside ChatGPT or Gemini?
Yes, in more places than before. Google AI Mode and the Gemini app are rolling out a Shopify-powered checkout inside the chat for shoppers in the US, Canada and Australia, and Microsoft Copilot and Meta also support direct checkout. ChatGPT usually sends shoppers to the store’s own checkout, but a shopper who uses Shopify’s shop.md skill in ChatGPT, Claude or another agent can check out with Shop Pay without leaving the chat. Shop Pay checkout also works inside personal AI agents, starting with Meta’s Muse, Claude Duet and Instinct.
Do AI shopping channels work for stores selling only in Europe?
Not yet for most of them. The AI channels currently require selling to the US or, depending on the channel, to Canada, Australia, Mexico and a few other countries. EU-only stores still benefit from preparing product data, since the same work improves Google Shopping, Meta catalogs, marketplaces and on-site search, and the channels are likely to expand.
Do AI sales channels cost extra?
Shopify states there are no channel fees for selling through Agentic Storefronts; merchants pay their standard payment processing fees. Orders appear in the Shopify admin with channel attribution, and the customer relationship stays with the merchant.
Can a store opt out of AI channels?
Yes. Each channel can be switched off under Sales channels > Agentic. Products may still be found through normal web crawling, so fully hiding a product means setting its status to Unlisted. Keep in mind that Unlisted also removes the product from the sitemap, from Google search and from the store’s own search.
What is the Knowledge base, and why review it before BFCM?
It is a set of store facts, such as shipping destinations, return windows and sizing, that AI agents use to answer shoppers. It sits under Sales channels > Agentic > Knowledge base. Facts Shopify drafts from the storefront stay unpublished until the merchant publishes them, while store policies and contact details are published automatically. Holiday shipping cut-offs and BFCM returns policies should be checked there, because agents quote these facts to shoppers.
Is Shopify Protect switched on automatically?
Shopify says Protect works automatically for every business using Shopify Payments, at no extra cost, though some features are still rolling out. Custom fraud rules require the separate Shopify Protect: Rule Builder app, which is free to install and charges per screened transaction.
Should a store switch to Canvas or the new theme format before BFCM?
We advise against it. Canvas is in early access, a theme edited in Canvas stops receiving theme updates and app blocks are not yet supported, while the new theme format is a developer preview. Both are worth testing on a theme copy in December.
Will checkout custom fields be available for BFCM 2026?
No. Shopify has stated that checkout custom fields will not be released before or during Black Friday Cyber Monday.
Can the sale prices shown in AI channels be checked?
Yes. Since October 9, 2026, Shopify Catalog shares compare-at prices with AI agents. The setting can be reviewed under Sales channels > Agentic > Sources > Shopify Catalog > Review product data mapping, in the Compare-at section, where sharing can also be switched off.
