In short: ContentSpeed or Shopify?
ContentSpeed is a strong fit for a Romanian retailer or distributor that wants to own its platform license, run deep local integrations (ERP, couriers, payment processors, eMAG) and work with one Bucharest team for design, hosting and development. Shopify pays off when you want a subscription that includes hosting and updates, a global app ecosystem, native tools for email and SMS, and a faster path to selling abroad. Neither charges a commission on your sales, so the real comparison is total cost of ownership and who controls your roadmap.
Stay on ContentSpeed if…
- You already own a ContentSpeed license and your maintenance contract covers what you need.
- Your ERP integration (for example SAP, Navision, Charisma or WinMentor) is complex and already stable.
- You sell mostly in Romania and rely on built-in modules such as automatic cheapest-courier selection, local installment payments or online pharmacy flows.
- You run a B2B distribution business on Portal B2B and the portal fits your sales process.
- You prefer one local supplier for platform, hosting and development.
Move to Shopify if…
- Every new feature becomes a development request to one team, and you want to launch in days through apps or the developers you choose.
- Email and SMS (for example with Klaviyo) are becoming a main revenue channel.
- You plan to sell in several countries with local currencies, languages, domains and checkout.
- Maintenance, hosting and development subscriptions now cost more than the platform gives back.
- You want a platform any agency or developer can work on, so you are not tied to a single supplier.
What is ContentSpeed?
ContentSpeed is a Romanian ecommerce platform built in Bucharest, in development since 2003. The company describes itself as having 30+ ecommerce specialists and ISO 27001 certification, and it serves B2C retailers and B2B distributors. It is not open source: depending on the tier, you either rent the platform as SaaS or buy a license and pay ContentSpeed for maintenance, hosting and development.
The platform comes in three tiers:
- Startup: monthly SaaS subscriptions with shared cloud hosting, up to 10,000 products and platform updates every two weeks.
- Premium: an own license per domain, unlimited in time, with unlimited products, a dedicated project manager and integration with ERP, WMS or CRM systems.
- Enterprise: a multistore license for several domains and countries, a dedicated server cluster, headless ecommerce through APIs and a contractual SLA for critical issues.
For distributors, ContentSpeed also sells Portal B2B, a separate product for wholesale ordering. The platform is built around Romanian operations: integrations with local couriers, payment processors and installment providers, eMAG Marketplace, many Romanian ERP and invoicing systems, click and collect, and modules for online pharmacies. Many of these are optional modules priced separately from the license, so check what your contract includes.
ContentSpeed vs Shopify: comparison table
The biggest difference is ownership versus subscription: on ContentSpeed Premium you buy a license and then pay for maintenance, hosting and development; on Shopify one plan covers the platform, hosting and updates, and you choose who develops your store. Shopify prices are US prices on monthly billing; ContentSpeed license prices are as listed on its website. Data checked October 2026.

How much does ContentSpeed cost compared to Shopify?
Neither platform takes a commission on your sales, so the cost difference comes from structure. ContentSpeed Premium starts with a one-time license, then adds recurring subscriptions; Shopify is a monthly plan from day one.
ContentSpeed lists two Premium B2C licenses on its website: BASIC B2C at 1,799 EUR and PREMIUM B2C at 2,799 EUR, both own licenses per domain, unlimited in time, with unlimited products. On top of the license you pay for a maintenance and guarantee subscription (monthly or yearly, with or without shared or dedicated hosting), for development on request, and for optional modules such as ERP integrations, eMAG, multi-language or multi-currency. Startup stores pay a monthly SaaS subscription instead, and Enterprise is quoted per project. Maintenance and hosting prices are not published, so ask for a full quote.
Shopify’s core plans cost 39 USD (Basic), 105 USD (Grow) and 399 USD (Advanced) a month on monthly billing, while Plus starts at 2,300 USD a month on a 3-year term or 2,500 USD on a 1-year term. These are US prices; your Shopify admin shows the price for your country, which can differ. On top of the plan, budget for paid apps, a theme, development work and payment processing. Shopify Payments is available to businesses in Romania for online payments; with a third-party gateway, Shopify adds a transaction fee.
Here is what to compare line by line:

The honest takeaway: add up three years. On ContentSpeed, that is the license, the optional modules you need, maintenance, hosting and the development hours you actually use. On Shopify, it is the plan, apps, theme, development and payment costs. A license can look cheaper on day one, but the recurring lines decide the real number, and so does how fast each setup lets you ship what your customers need.
Who handles hosting, security and updates?
On both platforms, the vendor runs the technology; what changes is how you pay for it. On ContentSpeed, hosting and platform updates come through ContentSpeed: shared cloud on Startup, shared, VPS or dedicated servers (including a Microsoft Azure option) on Premium, and a dedicated server cluster on Enterprise. Bug fixes and updates are covered by the maintenance and guarantee contract, and the platform includes daily backups. Shopify hosts, secures and updates the platform for every merchant inside the subscription, and is certified Level 1 PCI DSS compliant.
The practical difference is dependency. On ContentSpeed, response times and fixes depend on the SLA in your contract and on one team’s capacity. On Shopify, the platform layer is the same for millions of stores, and your team or agency owns only the theme, apps and data.
Before deciding, ask ContentSpeed what your maintenance contract covers, your SLA for critical issues, your backup and restore process, and what happens to your license, hosting and data if the contract ends.
Which is better for SEO and site speed?
Neither platform wins on SEO by default; results depend on content, technical setup and site speed. ContentSpeed includes friendly URLs, editable meta information, schema.org markup, image ALT tags and a CDN for images, and sells page speed optimization as a service. Shopify covers the technical basics out of the box (sitemap, canonical tags, editable titles and meta descriptions, redirects) and lets developers fine-tune themes and structured data.
One Shopify detail matters for migrations: URLs use fixed prefixes such as /products/ and /collections/, so almost every ContentSpeed URL will change. Without a complete URL map and 301 redirects, rankings can drop, which is why a migration without losing organic traffic starts with SEO, not design.
For speed, test your own store rather than relying on platform claims. Run your top category and product pages through Google PageSpeed Insights and compare them with well-built Shopify stores in your niche.
How do they compare on marketing and retention?
The difference is how much of your retention stack works without custom development. On Shopify, Klaviyo connects through a native integration and syncs orders, browsing behavior, products and customers without server work. That data powers segmented flows such as welcome series, browse abandonment, abandoned cart, post-purchase and win-back, with email and SMS run from one place.
On ContentSpeed, we could not find a published Klaviyo integration. Its listed integrations include other email marketing tools, a retargeting platform, SMS order confirmations, affiliate networks and price comparison sites. The platform also has strong promotion tools of its own, such as cascading cart discounts, gift products by order value, 1+1 free offers and scheduled repeat orders, while the abandoned cart module is included only on the higher Premium license. Connecting Klaviyo would mean a custom build, paid as development work and maintained by the ContentSpeed team.
As a Shopify Plus Partner and Klaviyo Master Platinum agency, we see the same pattern often: the less time a team spends keeping integrations alive, the more time it spends improving the flows that drive predictable revenue.
Which scales better for B2B and international?
B2B is where ContentSpeed is strongest; international growth is where Shopify gives more out of the box. ContentSpeed offers customer groups with different prices, a catalog with prices hidden from the public, and Portal B2B, a separate product for distributors that sell wholesale to companies. Enterprise adds a multistore license for several domains and countries, and headless ecommerce through APIs. On Premium, multi-language and multi-currency are optional modules.
Shopify added native B2B to its Basic, Grow and Advanced plans in April 2026, with up to 3 catalogs, company profiles, payment terms and volume pricing; Plus adds unlimited B2B catalogs and up to 9 expansion stores. With Markets you sell in several countries from one store, with local currencies, languages and domains, and the Advanced plan lets you customize the theme, checkout and customer account pages for each market.
Local operations favor ContentSpeed. On Shopify, Romanian invoicing (including e-Factura), AWB generation with local couriers, installment payments and eMAG listings run through third-party apps, so test each one against your order volume before you move. Also note that Shopify Payments in Romania covers online payments but not in-person payments with Shopify POS, which matters if you run physical shops or click and collect.
How easy is it to take your data with you?
Both platforms let you export the core data yourself. ContentSpeed’s admin exports products, customers, orders and invoices in Excel or CSV format, and Shopify exports products, customers and orders as CSV files on every plan.
Before any migration, also export what those files often miss: order history details, product reviews, blog posts, attached documents, variant images and the complete list of URLs. If you own a ContentSpeed license, ask how the license, hosting and maintenance contract end, and plan the export and the new store launch together, so you are never without a working store.
When it makes sense to stay on ContentSpeed
Stay on ContentSpeed if the platform is not what limits your growth. A migration costs time, money and focus, and it only pays off when it solves a real problem.
ContentSpeed is likely still the right choice if you already paid for a license, your ERP and courier integrations run smoothly, you sell mainly in Romania, and your maintenance and development costs stay reasonable compared with a full Shopify setup. It also makes sense for B2B distributors whose sales teams depend on Portal B2B, and for online pharmacies that use its specialized modules.
If growth has stalled, look at the bottleneck first. Weak ads, product pages or email strategy will follow you to any platform.
How migrating from ContentSpeed to Shopify works
A ContentSpeed to Shopify migration follows six steps, with SEO protection running through all of them. The timeline depends on catalog size, integrations (ERP, invoicing, couriers, payment processors, marketplaces) and design scope.
- Audit. We review your catalog, traffic, top-ranking URLs, the ContentSpeed modules you use and every integration, and agree on what must work on day one.
- Data export. Products, customers and orders are exported from the ContentSpeed admin, along with content pages, blog posts, reviews and attached documents.
- Store build. We set up the Shopify theme, design, checkout, the apps that replace ContentSpeed modules (invoicing, couriers, installments, marketplaces), and integrations such as Klaviyo, payments and, where needed, your ERP.
- SEO mapping. Every old URL gets a 301 redirect to its new equivalent, and titles, meta descriptions and structured data are carried over.
- Testing. Orders, payments, invoices, AWBs, emails, integrations and redirects are tested end to end before launch.
- Launch and monitoring. We switch the domain, monitor rankings and crawl errors in Google Search Console, and fix issues in the first weeks.

ContentSpeed vs Shopify: FAQ
Is ContentSpeed better than Shopify?
It depends on your goals. ContentSpeed is better for Romanian retailers and B2B distributors that want to own a license, need deep local integrations and prefer one local supplier for hosting and development. Shopify is better for brands that want hosting, updates and security inside one subscription, a global app ecosystem and room to grow internationally. Choose the one that removes your current growth bottleneck.
Does ContentSpeed take a commission on sales?
No. ContentSpeed lists its Premium licenses as having no sales commission, and states that Enterprise has no traffic or sales-based fees. You pay for the license plus maintenance, hosting and development.
How much does migrating from ContentSpeed to Shopify cost?
It depends on catalog size, the integrations you need to replace (ERP, invoicing, couriers, installments, marketplaces) and design scope. We share a clear estimate after the audit, with no surprises on the invoice.
Will I lose Google rankings if I migrate?
Not if the migration is planned around SEO. Every old URL needs a 301 redirect to its new equivalent, because Shopify uses fixed URL prefixes. We then monitor rankings and crawl errors in Google Search Console after launch.
Can I use Romanian couriers, invoicing and eMAG on Shopify?
Yes, through third-party apps for invoicing (including e-Factura), AWB generation, installments and marketplace listings. Test each app with your real order volume before launch, since these replace modules that are built into ContentSpeed.
Can Shopify replace ContentSpeed's Portal B2B?
Often, yes. Shopify’s native B2B covers company profiles, catalogs, payment terms and volume pricing, and Plus removes the catalog limit. For complex distribution flows with deep ERP integration, we map your B2B process in the audit before recommending a move.
Can I use Klaviyo on Shopify?
Yes. Klaviyo connects to Shopify through a native integration that syncs orders, browsing behavior and product data, so you can run email and SMS flows from day one.
